As we all know the ASER survey has been concluded in many villages and districts of the country. Whether sometimes the ASER surveyors are given a hostile welcome in the village or a warm one, we hope that their objective is achieved properly. Rarely do we expect to hear from the Headman of the village informing us about the successful completion of the survey in his village. One of our District coordinators from Himachal Pradesh instructed all his village surveyors to give a postcard to the village headman who in turn was asked to mail it to the central Pratham office when ASER is completed in his village. Here is a postcard straight from one of the villages in Kinnaur district.

This postcard arrived from the district that experienced the first adult franchise in India- when India went into general elections in 1952. The district of Kinnaur was the first to go into polling because access to this district closes during the winter months. ASER was also concluded here at the earliest!
