2,200 Children participate in

Bal Gyan Utsav at

Munger in Bihar

The ‘Bal Gyan’ workshop cum exhibition under “Mission Sunhera Kal” held on 24 - 25th December at Munger was a spectacular event – it brought cheers to and applause amongst the children of Munger. The response from the residents of Munger was absolutely thrilling for both the Pratham and ITC Munger team.

Over 2,200 children participated in the event – which must be some kind of a record for this small township of Bihar

The morning started with a yoga session followed by a workshop on art and craft, creative arithmetic and language for the children. In the afternoon documentary films on social issues relevant to the children was screened. The workshop and the film shows were a huge success as children poured in to participate in the events

An exhibition was put up entirely by the children with some help from the teachers.  Thirty six stalls were erected in record time, and their exciting displays drew huge crowds and kept the visitors engaged over two days.

District Magistrate, Mr. K. Santhil, took time off from his district administration responsibilities to inaugurate the event by cutting a ribbon. After completing his round of the stalls, and seeing for himself what exhibits even the economically underprivileged children could  assemble in a short time, he could not resist remarking that “…even the Government machinery could not have made such excellent arrangements” – which is a huge compliment for Pratham and ITC team members. We acknowledge the support of the District Magistrate.

The function concluded on Christmas Day. It was an evening of  fun for the children – they recited poems, put up impromptu plays, sang songs, and played interesting games. A tired but proud and children and the team sang “Hum honge kamyaab…” to conclude the festivities.

The planning, execution, and final roll out of the event were largely possible due to the hard work and sincerity exhibited by Pratham volunteers, led by coordinator Rajesh and Patna ’s Asha Singh. The team acknowledges the tireless efforts and contribution of Ms. Sunetra Poddar and Ms. Sarika who were responsible for the design and planning of the entire event, & Mr Y.P Singh for coordinating with the administration and the media. The media for reporting the event prominently.
