Pratham
- JMC Partnership
(Anuj
Sharma)
The
CEO-Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) invited Pratham
Rajasthan to undertake a rapid assessment of the current
reality of six primary schools of JMC. The presentation of
facts led to the drafting of a plan of action for school
improvement and the signing of an MOU for a Management
Assistance and Development Programme (MADP) between the JMC
and Pratham Rajasthan.
The
MADP has successfully increased student strength and
attendance from a dismally low figure of 85 to more than
300(enrolled in the new academic session) within two months.
This accomplishment was due to the introduction of the
learning activities at JMC school premises like the
establishment of libraries and the implementation of the Balwadi,
the pre-schooling programme.
The
JMC agreed to support a three-person team for the
implementation of the MADP. A steering committee has been
constituted with Pratham representative and relevant
corporation authorities. The MADP has so far led to key
improvements in the schools’ infrastructures, increased
parent-teacher involvement and better teacher learning
materials. Additional areas to be strengthened and
improved over the next six months include performance
monitoring and management, assessment/evaluation and the
performance of teachers.
The
JMC’s enrolment drive was one of the first public school
events, consisting of week-long rallies with children, parents
and teachers as participants. The enrolment drive received
positive press coverage as demonstrated by the supporting
photograph.
