Novib (Oxfam Netherlands) was set up in 1956 as the Netherlands Organisation for International Development Co-operation. It's main objective is to promote a global society where the socio-economic inequalities between rich and poor are eradicated and where people and sectors of the population can learn about and respect each other's culture. Novib today has more than forty years of experience and thousands of development projects in the Third World.

Novib is a member of Oxfam International, a growing group that currently consists of eleven organisations for development co-operation. Oxfam International supports more than 3000 counterparts in approximately 100 countries to alleviate poverty and injustice. Oxfam International commits its moral, personal and financial resources to promote a worldwide movement towards economic and social justice in collaboration with citizens, businesses and governments.

Pratham is a societal-mission that was launched in 1994 in Mumbai by a few committed individuals, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and UNICEF. Its aim is to achieve "Universal Primary Education" - where education becomes the responsibility of the whole society and not just the government. This movement is now gaining momentum throughout India with individuals, corporates and state governments taking the initiative to ensure that every child in their respective cities comes under the education web.

Today, Pratham is an all India movement that has spread to other cities like Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow , Allahabad, Patna, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Pune, Amravati, Aurangabad, Nagpur, Nasik, Raigad, Ralegaon, Solapur, Thane, Bangalore, Vizianagaram and Kutchch.

Pratham Novib association

Driven by similar objectives Novib and Pratham joined hands way back in mid 1999. The Pratham program has expanded considerably since the first contact with Novib. Today, Novib is committed to support Pratham in a true spirit of partnership for a period of three years. The assistance is expected to be of the order of Rs 30 million per year for work in Mumbai, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi and Bihar.

India receives funds from NPL through the Pratham - Novib association.
