Pratham began working in the union territories of Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli in October 2014. A three year collaboration with the government of the UTs will have Read India, the component for working on improving learning levels in primary education in Daman & Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli. During the Academic Year 2015-16 and Academic Year 2016-17 the program is expected to scale up to 338 schools, and an estimated 25,000 children in Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and will also be covering schools in Diu. A component for teacher training, for the CAMaL methodology and teaching at the right level for improving learning levels is part of project activities.
Government Tie Ups

In Gujarat, Pratham has partnered with the Government of Gujarat in the past to implement remedial education programs that use elements of the teaching at the right level model, since 2008.


In 2014, the Honourable Administrator of the Union territories invited Pratham to develop a strategy to improve the learning levels of government primary school children in the two union territories – Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. An MoU s has been signed with the administration is for a period of almost three years, from October 2014 to March 2017.


The partnership with the government will include the training of government Cluster Resource Center Coordinators (CRCCs) who will then train government school teachers on how to conduct special learning classes in approximately 280 schools to enhance the language and arithmetic levels of primary school children.
