About Early Years Content

Pratham’s intensive work in the field of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) for the past 30 years shows that it is crucial to invest in the development of children. ECCE provides an opportunity for providing a stimulating environment for the child’s holistic development for ages 3-6 in particular. However, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has covered 3 to 8 year olds in its academic structure as the foundational stages which not only requires the coming together of the Women Development & Child Welfare (WD&CW) Department and Education Department but also requires practitioners in the field to facilitate the smooth transition of children in an Anganwadi or preschool setup to Grade 1 in the formal schooling system. The Early Years Content Team at Pratham focuses on 3-8 year olds and intends to make use of the existing knowledge that children carry and strengthen it to build their foundational skills, particularly in the preschool years and early grades.

Pratham’s work in Early Years includes but is not limited to:

  • Curriculum development for 3 to 8 year olds
  • Developing compelling course content and engaging learning materials for teachers
  • Building and reinforcing teachers’ capacities via online and offline workshops/training
  • Assessing content feasibility, tracking field progress, and documenting program outcomes
