About the Inclusive Education

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recognizes the urgent need for an inclusive education system that ensures students with and without disabilities learn together, with teaching and learning methods adapted to diverse needs. However, translating this vision into practice requires sustained efforts in early identification, individualized support, teacher preparedness, and systemic integration of inclusive practices.

Pratham has been working to bridge this gap by supporting children with disabilities, their families, and educators through inclusive education interventions in Maharashtra. Our approach focuses on building teacher capacity, creating accessible learning resources, and strengthening family and community involvement to ensure that learning opportunities are truly equitable for all children. In Maharashtra, Pratham has been actively working to ensure that children with disabilities receive the support they need to thrive in learning environments. In 2023, Pratham conducted a statewide situational analysis on inclusive education, identifying key gaps and opportunities for strengthening inclusion within government systems.
