The first Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) survey is conducted across rural India. ASER results show that although enrollment levels are very high, learning levels are worryingly low. The massive nationwide study continues to be the largest household survey undertaken in rural India, covering more than 600,000 children each year.
Vocational training classes are piloted for unemployed and underemployed youth so that they can acquire new skills and seek work opportunities.
