Manisha: Nurturing Young Minds Through Learning Activities and Stories

16-year-old from Rajasthan is making summer learning fun for children in her community

Manisha, a 16-year-old from a village in Rajasthan’s Baran district, always wanted to be a teacher. Growing up in a family of seven—her grandparents, parents, and three sisters—she learned the value of supporting one another. Her father, who works as a farmer, also instilled in her a deep respect for hard work and community spirit.

This summer, Manisha took a step towards her dream by volunteering for Pratham’s CAMaL Ka Camp to strengthen foundational learning among children in her community. Every day, she gathers a group of 15 children from her village and conducts engaging activities and games to make learning fun and meaningful.

Her students’ favourite part is listening to the Kahani Train stories, which she brings to life by borrowing a speaker from her neighbours. “Every child deserves a chance to learn and thrive,” says Manisha. “Supporting children in their learning is one of the most important things anyone can do.”

For Manisha, this camp has been more than just volunteer work. It’s a hands-on experience that’s strengthening her dream of becoming a teacher and sharpening her teaching skills. She has learned that teaching is not just about explaining concepts, it’s about creating an environment where children can explore and grow with joy.

Even when she can’t be there, Manisha ensures that learning never stops. She’s taught all the activities to her elder sister, who steps in to lead the sessions in her absence. Their father supports them wholeheartedly, encouraging them to pour their energy into helping children learn throughout the summer break.

Reflecting on her journey, Manisha says, “Learning should never stop, and we should never let an opportunity to learn pass by. Teaching is one of the best ways to keep learning because it pushes you to grow every day.”

Manisha’s dedication and enthusiasm are lighting up her village this summer—bringing stories, smiles, and a love of learning to children who now look forward to each new day at CAMaL Ka Camp.
