Role Overview
The Technical Product Manager will own the vision, evolution, and performance of Pratham’s Learning Management System(s). This role sits at the intersection of program needs, user experience, and technology, and is responsible for ensuring that the LMS meaningfully supports learning outcomes at scale.
The role requires someone who understands technology broadly, but more-so thinks holistically about the product — balancing technology, user needs, operational realities, and long-term sustainability. The Product Manager will translate business and program requirements into clear technical workflows, guide development priorities, and take end-to-end ownership of the LMS as a product.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys shaping products in complex, real-world environments and wants to apply product thinking in a mission-driven education context.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Ownership & Direction
- Own the vision, roadmap, and long-term evolution of Pratham’s Learning Management System (LMS).
- Define product goals and success metrics aligned with learning outcomes and organisational priorities.
- Prioritise features based on impact, scalability, and user value, balancing short-term needs with long-term sustainability.
- Ensure the LMS functions as a shared organisational platform rather than fragmented, program-specific solutions.
- Requirement Translation & Product Design
- Work closely with Program teams to understand learning goals, user journeys, and operational realities.
- Translate business needs into clear functional requirements, workflows, and acceptance criteria.
- Act as the bridge between non-technical stakeholders and technical teams to ensure shared understanding.
- Champion user- and learning-centric design, especially for field-based and low-connectivity contexts.
- Technical & System Thinking
- Maintain a strong understanding of the LMS architecture, integrations, and data flows.
- Assess feasibility, risks, and downstream impacts of product decisions.
- Guide technical choices to ensure robustness, security, scalability, and reuse.
- Drive standardisation and limit unnecessary customisation across programs.
- Delivery & Execution Management
- Convert product priorities into release plans and milestones.
- Work with internal teams and vendors to track progress, dependencies, and risks.
- Oversee pilots, phased rollouts, and quality assurance before scale.
- Lead post-release reviews and continuous product improvement.
- Stakeholder & Partner Engagement
- Serve as the primary product point-of-contact for Program teams, leadership, and partners.
- Communicate priorities, timelines, and constraints clearly and proactively.
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure alignment on requirements, delivery, and quality.
- Represent the LMS product in internal forums and external discussions as needed.
Qualifications & Competencies
What We’re Looking For
- A systems-oriented thinker who can balance Product, Program and Technology priorities across a complex landscape.
- Ability to translate ambiguity into clarity, converting business and program needs into structured product and technical requirements.
- Strong grasp of software development fundamentals (SDLC, APIs, data flows) without needing to code.
- Clear and confident communicator, comfortable working across program teams, developers, vendors, and leadership.
- A pragmatic, mission-driven mindset — willing to travel to field locations, make informed trade-offs, and work in resource-constrained environments aligned with Pratham’s values.
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
Professional Experience
- 8-10 years of experience in a Technical Product Manager, Product Owner, or Technical Project-to-Product role.
- Hands-on experience working with software development teams on web or mobile platforms.
- Experience with LMS, EdTech platforms, or large-scale user-facing systems is strongly preferred.
- Exposure to nonprofit, education, or large distributed user environments is a plus.
