ASER 2010 reported a substantial increase in school enrolment figures but no visible improvement in the quality of education.

ASER 2011 found that private school enrollment in most states is increasing although the Right to Education Act for free and compulsory education is in place. Over 25% children in rural India go to private schools and the numbers are likely to rise.
